A while back (maybe last year sometime) I shared on Facebook a project that I got Mr P to help me with. I realised today that I have never shared it on the blog! Are you ready for this? It changed my life & it could change yours too! We hung the sides of our old baby crib (no need for that anymore!) from the ceiling in our laundry to use as an inside clothesline on rainy days. Just like today!
I went to the fabric shop this morning & I always wash any new fabrics before sewing. Now they are hanging from the rails! Hopefully it won’t take too long for them to dry because I have a few quilts that need to be finished & some super funky PJ’s to make! I have also hung up some of the winter woollies & when they dry inside, they stay super soft. Our hot water system is in the laundry so it is great to speed up drying time. I do not have a clothes dryer & I do not need one!
As you can see, we just used hooks in the ceiling & chains to hold the crib rails up. I use this all the time. School clothes that need to be dried for the next day, hang wet shoes above the hot water system to dry, put washed pillows along the top to dry, & if I do a last minute load of washing before bed I don’t even need to go outside!
This system has changed my life. I am no longer a slave to my washing. Even my house thanks me because it smells as beautiful as the fabric softener that I use!

I have had my husband hang a long dowel with chains at each end from the laundry ceiling in every house we've lived in and hung clothes on coat hangers from them, but this cot sides idea is the best,so great not to have clotheshorses in everybodys way!!!
ReplyDeleteNow you have given me an idea Kat! I have a little bit of room on the otherside of the laundry & I am going to get a piece of dowel for there! Yes, I got sick & tired of always having to move the clotheshorse & this was my answer to the problem! xx
DeleteI hadnt thought of this, wonderful idea! I'll be on the look out for a discarded crib now. Love your blog!

It really is worth finding a crib for! So glad you are enjoying the blog! xx
Deletegreat idea jos, too bad i still have to wait for one more baby to go thru our cot :D just thinking too... old wooden child gates would work great too, and i have many many spare of those :D thanks for giving me some ideas to get all this washing done in the rain, especially with b home and work clothes needing to be dried before tomorrow arv :D
ReplyDeleteYep, child gates would work! I hang up Chris' work pants all the time so they are dry withing the 24 hour break. xx
DeleteGreat idea Jos. I'm lucky I've got an outside pergola that I can hang all my washing. Wasn't yesterday a shocker?

Yes, yesterday was pretty bad & the weather is turning here again! I used to hang everything under the back patio roof but now it is the teenage retreat. Hopefully we get some good weather soon so I can wash all the winter blankets.

A very good idea indeed! I love that you recycled the side of a cot. Pinning!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea Jos! We have an ikea foldable clothes airer mounted on our laundry wall, it comes in handy. We don't have much space in our laundry though so wouldn't be able fit a cot panel.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for linking up to Totally Pinworthy
Great idea Jos - I hate the cost of the dryer.
ReplyDeleteHey Jos. Hope you don't mind that I used this in a post I did about laundry? It's a great idea! Let me know if there's a problem.
