Scrabble tile pendants. A tutorial

Scrabble Tile Pendants are easy to make & a great way to bring some fun to your wardrobe!

copy005

These are 2 that I made for my daughters. Their friends always comment on how cute they are whenever they wear them. They are perfect to make for gifts & are very cheap to make!

All you need is

copy041

Some 1 inch square clear stickers, some good quality glue (I used E-6000), scrabble tile, some pretty scrapbook paper, a metal bail & necklace to put it on to.

Using the clear epoxy sticker, place it on the picture on the paper that you want to use.

copy042
Cut around the sticker. The epoxy sticker gives the pendant a nice finish while also protecting the paper.
Using a small amount of glue, glue the paper to the scrabble tile & allow to dry.

Using the same glue, attach the bail to the back of the scrabble tile. This gives you something to use to attach it to the chain.

And there you have it! The options are endless to the designs that you can make these in. It is also a great way to use up those leftover pieces of scrapbooking paper that are too pretty to throw away!

Quick and easy fish parcels

copy004

Looking for an easy & quick way to cook fish? Then let me show you the way that I like to cook fish.
It is the paper parcel method. All you need is some baking paper, some mixed herbs (I used Spanish pre mixed mixed herbs in a grinder), a little butter & of course some yummy fresh fish fillets.

Sprinkle some of the herbs on to a piece of microwave safe baking paper.

001

Place your piece of fish on top. This works well with any type of fish.

002

Sprinkle some more herbs on top & also add a small teaspoon of butter.

Wrap the baking paper around the fish with all the openings folded so that no steam can escape from the parcel.

003

I cooked this fish for 3 minutes on 90% power in the microwave. (oven times & temperatures may vary)

004

And there you have it. A super moist and tasty piece of fish. Serve with steamed vegies or a salad.

Apple quickie dessert

As you probably know by now, I have been on a healthy eating plan for just over a week now. I have been doing really well, only 1 or 2 slight hiccups. The biggest thing that I am having trouble dealing with is the sweet craving after dinner. It hits really bad around 8pm. So I have been trying a few different ways to deal with this. This dessert that I came up with is super easy, super quick & super sweet. It does have just a little sugar but all things in moderation, right?

copy101

All you need is  1 apple
A 1/2 teaspoon of raw sugar
                        A sprinkle of cinnamon
                        Spray oil
                        Ice cream to serve
(this is the ingredients for 1 serving. increase by the number of people you will be serving.)

Peel & slice an apple.

092

Spray a microwave safe bowl with a little cooking oil. Not too much. Then place the apple in the bowl.

093

Sprinkle the raw sugar & cinnamon on top.

098

Cook on high for 3 minutes. (times & temperatures may vary for different microwaves)
Place the cooked apple into a serving glass & top with a scoop of your fave vanilla ice cream. (I used a light ice cream)

This dessert is sweet, satisfying & not too sinful!
It even passed the Mr P test which is a big deal!

Going to the hairdressers is my little luxury

In this face pace world that we live in, my one selfish indulgence is my 6 weekly visit to the hairdressers. I love it. I live for it. I need it. It is 1 & 1/2 hours of pure bliss. I do not play on my phone, take the laptop or interrupt my bliss time with any modern day tech things. I love to read a good gossip mag & talk to my fabulous hairdresser.

It always reminds me of my all time fave movie Steel Magnolias. Oh, I could so be a southern belle! Getting my hair & make up done every week or 2. {insert dreamy music here}

Nothing beats the feeling of walking in looking like you just got out of bed {because I did} & walking back out like you are on top of the world. One thing never changes & that is the fact that women will always want to get their hair done. Some times we leave it a little longer than we should. I now book in for my next cut & colour before I walk out the door. For many years, I was the person who cut & colour my own hair. Yes, I said it! I would colour it myself with disastrous results. My kids & my husband spent many nights laughing while I couldn't understand why my hair was not the same colour as indicated as on the box. I was known to put my hair in a ponytail & chop it off to give me what I thought was awesome layers. They were not so awesome!
I look back & cringe.

Queen Latifah for "Beauty Shop "

I have been going to the same fabulous hairdresser for over 1 year now & even my girls go every 6 weeks. It is something that I want to get them to do now so that they can spoil themselves when they become wives & Mothers {if they become those or even if they dominate the world. Either way, I will be happy} . I used to think that I didn’t deserve the money or time spent at the hairdressers but I do deserve it.  I know that when I spoke about this topic last year sometime on the Facebook Page, most of the comments left were by women who said that the last time they had a haircut was over 1 year ago. I used to be the same. I was one of those women. That was how the whole topic came about. I had booked into see my hairdresser after not having a haircut for over 1 year. Now I wish that I had jumped on the going to the hairdressers bandwagon years ago!
Do you make time to spoil yourself at the hairdressers?
What was you worst DIY hair disaster?

Split pea and vegetable soup

I have really been enjoying a freezer full of soup this week. It has made lunch times so quick & easy. This one is a fave that I used to make many years ago & it has made a comeback in my house. It is a split pea & vegetable soup that is thick, hearty & very filling. Perfect to fill you up at lunch time or even as a meal for dinner. It is jam packed with vegies like sweet potato, pumpkin, carrot, shallots

050

It is very easy to make. All you need is…
2 shallots
3 medium carrots
2 medium sweet potatoes
500g of pumpkin
1 jar of tomato cooking sauce or 2 tins of diced tomatoes
1 cup of yellow split peas
1L of water or stock

Peel & chop the carrots, sweet potatoes & pumpkin into 1cm pieces so that they are all round the same size. Bite sized.

029

Slice your shallots into 1cm pieces & fry in a little olive oil until softened

028032

Add the rest of the vegies to the pot with a little more olive oil & fry until slightly softened.

037

Add the water or stock & the jar of tomatoes or tinned tomatoes & get it to a gentle simmer.

035039

Rinse the split peas well under cold running water.

 030

Add them to the soup & simmer for a further 1 hour or until the vegies are tender & the soup has thickened.
Serve with some fresh French stick or your fave crusty bread.

This freezes well. If you want you could also add some diced beef or chicken to make it a more hearty & filling meal.
